About HSI:
Homicide Survivors, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and exists to support survivors of homicide in southern Arizona. HSI Provides financial assistance, advocacy and support groups to southern Arizona.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director will provide the key public representative and operating management leader of Homicide Survivors and will play a critical role in increasing sustainability and growth of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, outreach, fundraising, activities and long term planning of the organization.
Additionally, qualified individual will provide management of advocates and provide direct service to survivors.
The successful candidate will develop and strengthen partnerships with past, current and prospective supporters, elected officials, other groups supporting Homicide Survivors, local, statewide and national businesses and funders.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Board Relations: Work with Board in order to fulfill the organization mission. •Provide ongoing guidance to ensure the strength and effectiveness of the Board.
•Communicate effectively with the Board and provide all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner.
•Work with the Board to identify and recruit strong Board members as needed.
•Work closely with the Board to formulate and communicate goals and priorities that drive the organization toward sustained growth.
•Work closely with Board committees to develop and execute strategic and operational plans.
2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. •In coordination with the Board and staff, develop and manage the annual operating budget to ensure effective and responsible fiscal practices.
•Oversee management of investments, including donor advised funds and endowment funds.
•Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
•Ensure HSI has the resources to fulfill its fundraising and financial goals, strategic plan and operations.
•Write Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) grants.
•Work with the Board to develop and implement a fund development plan that maximizes and diversifies the organization’s funding sources.
•Maintain and enhance a strong, diverse base of donor support.
3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through activities, strategic planning and community outreach. •Provide leadership for the organization’s continued growth and success, in alignment with its mission.
•Oversee implementation of HSI’s activities that carry out the organization’s mission.
•Working with Board and staff, create and follow a strategic plan to ensure that HSI can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
•Responsible for the enhancement of HSI’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
•Continually develop and evaluate the communication channels between the Board, donors, stakeholders, grantees and community.
•Manage and engage a diverse cadre of volunteers.
4) Organization Operations. Ensure appropriate resources to implement operations of the organization. •Develop and maintain talented and highly motivated professional staff.
•Create a work culture that is mission-centric and values teamwork, effective communication, accountability and outstanding service.
•Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization with the prior approval of the Board of Directors.
•Effectively utilize information technology, social media, the website, Microsoft Office applications, fund development database applications, and the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Proven fund development skills working with major donors, foundations and corporations/businesses
•Proven grant writing skills and experience working with state funders.
•Ability to convey a vision of Homicide Survivors strategic future to key library staff, Board, volunteers and donors
•Transparent and high integrity leadership
•Demonstrated success creating a strong network of stakeholders and building effective partnerships
•Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
•Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
•Skills to collaborate with and motivate Board members and other volunteers
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
•Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
•Strong public speaking ability, including media
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media platforms and similar other technologies.
•Five or more years senior nonprofit experience
•Spanish speaking a plus
•Undergraduate Degree or higher
Salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
